Are you being Intentional?

By: Shawanna Denise

Are you intentional about your purpose? The goals you set and aim to accomplish? The effort you put forth to make it happen? You may be wondering, what does the word intentional mean? It means being deliberate. For example, If I know I need to go to the doctor for a yearly checkup than I am going to set an appointment so I can go….Calling to set an appointment was a deliberate action. I was intentional about it because it was something that I knew I needed to do to keep my health in check. The same is true then for your purpose in life. If you know that you are divinely ordained to walk an absolute truth, do you deliberately do the things that are going to keep your focus on your path and do the things that are going to help you get there?    ….It all boils down to the question….

Do you want it? Do you want to be your own boss? Do you want to impact the world? Do you want to start the career you’ve been dreaming of for so long? If you said yes, then it is a MUST that you be intentional.  Let’s discuss for a moment what we’re NOT going to do…. Living an intentional life means we do not need to compare ourselves to others. I did this a lot while I was on my journey. I would say things like, “why do they have this, and I do not” or “oh, they are living the good life.” The thing with this form of thinking is that it robs you of your inner joy. You are worried about what others are doing and what they have, instead of deciding to live your life the way you choose so that you can have those same things.

Gratitude? YES! Because being grateful for what we have is a part of finding out who we are and the value we hold. You may not have that nice car, but are you thankful that you have a car? You may not have that big house, but are you grateful that you have a roof over yours? The more we are thankful, the better we bring into our lives. Set goals for yourself and stay focused. I am intentional about writing in my journal a goal that I want to master for the week. Your goals can be big or small. Always have some goals about your purpose! I am also intentional about having quiet time with myself so that I can focus all my energy on my creativity.

Go to the library, maybe sit outside in your backyard with a glass of cold water. Sitting in nature opens this earthly connectedness. Be one with you where there are no distractions. Even if it is for 15-20 minutes, just do it! …Remember that energy flows where intention goes, so create your today!
